In an article posted yesterday to Bloomberg, it was announced that a therapy to reduce testosterone and other hormones in men with prostate cancer may have a positive effect against Covid-19. The study showed that men with who got hormone therapy had a lower chance of being infected by the virus. The results don’t mean that virus patients should start taking hormone therapy, but it shows that the data is worth studying.
Researches say that the hormone therapy regulates a protein called TMPRSS2, which in other studies has shown to help Covid-19 infect cells. The study looked at 4,532 men infected with Covid-19 in Italy’s Veneto region, finding that about 10% had cancer, while 2.6% had prostate cancer.
