New data from studies in the U.S. and Israel show that a booster shot from Pfizer prove to be safe and effective at warding off Covid-19. From Pfizer, “Real-world data from Israel and the United States suggest that rates of breakthrough infections are rising faster in individuals who were vaccinated earlier”.
On Friday the FDA, CDC, researchers from Israel and the UK, and Pfizer will meet to discuss data on a booster shot. The FDA also reported similar data to Pfizer today about the effectiveness of booster shots for Covid-19.
Pfizer also noted in their report, “The data from Israel and elsewhere suggest that a reduction in efficacy against infection may be followed by reduced effectiveness against severe disease, especially among vulnerable elderly people.”
There are no new side effects identified with the booster and there is now significant consideration of a booster dose six months after the second dose of the Pfizer shot.
