New Covid-19 Drug Cures Patients – Prevents Death
In a new article from the Times of Israel, it has been noted that a new Israeli drug has cured 29 of 30 moderate/serious Covid-19 cases. These 29 of 30 patients left the hospital within three to five days.
The new treatment is being developed at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Medical Center and has gone through it’s first phase 1 trial. Prof. Nadir Arber calls it EXO-CD24 and is being considered a huge breakthrough. All 30 of the patients recovered from the illness. The medicine fights off what they are calling the “cytokine storm”, which is when our immune system has an overreaction to the coronavirus possibly resulting in death.
EXO-CD24 delivers the CD24 protein to the lungs. Researcher Shiran Shapira of Arber’s lab said, “This protein is located on the surface of cells and has a well known and important role in regulating the immune system. The preparation is inhaled once a day for a few minutes, for five days,” Arber said. “The preparation is directed straight to the heart of the storm — the lungs — so unlike other formulas… which selectively restrain a certain cytokine, or operate widely but cause many serious side effects, EXO-CD24 is administered locally, works broadly and without side effects.”
EXO-CD24 will now move on to more trials. For more updates be sure to check back with the ABN Blog regularly.
